Full-time, seasonal, weekday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Summary:
Lead Camp Instructors (LCI) are the primary caregiver of each camper. Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director, the LCI will provide direct supervision of a group of children in a summer day camp. LCI’s will facilitate and implement curriculum and activities for an assigned age group with the ability to modify curricula to accommodate all learning levels. In addition, LCI will promote safe and healthy behavior in order to provide an active learning environment and provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The LCI will assist the Summer Camp Director with summer special events and the promotion of Y Summer Camp.

Essential Functions:

1.    Directs and supervises children, the classroom and the organization of campers in their age group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes
2.    Plans and implements age-appropriate curriculum in the areas of math and literacy
3.    Serves as a role model to camp-goers and builds relationships with youth and families that will deepen their connection to the Y
4.    Leads and participates in all camp activities and special events
5.    Implements i-Ready software curriculum, integrating it into the classroom whenever possible
6.    Acts as a positive role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
7.    Maintains high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
8.    Works as a team with fellow camp staff and attends and participates in all staff training and meetings
9.    Controls access to Y Summer Camp facility
10.    Maintains program space and equipment
11.    Maintains required program records
12.    Provides parents with accurate camp information
13.    Resolves camper and parent concerns and informs Summer Camp Director of unusual situations or unresolved issues
14.    Maintains a basic knowledge of all YMCA programs, departments and membership information
15.    Consistently demonstrates positive interaction and discipline with all children
16.    Expresses clear expectations and holds children accountable to adhering to them
17.    Helps children develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth
18.    Consistently demonstrates and reinforces the values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility


1.    Passion for working with youth and helping youth develop
2.    College degree or currently pursuing college degree (emphasis on education preferred)
3.    At least 18 years of age
4.    Previous experience working with children (in a developmental setting preferred)
5.    Previous experience with diverse populations preferred

Physical Demands:

1.    Ability to lift 50 pounds using proper technique
2.    Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities
3.    Ability to swim 50 yards preferred
4.    Currently have excellent health and be free of communicable diseases

Trainings/Certifications Required:

1.    CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (available through the Y)
2.    Redwoods Institute safety trainings including Child Sexual Abuse Prevention completed prior to summer camp start date (provided after being hired)
3.    Mandatory Reporter training (available through the Y)
4.   EARN MORE MONEY! Drive a Camp bus and make as much as $10 MORE per hour. If you have your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement or would be willing to get this license, please note this on your application or contact
