Homeward Bound!

On Monday July 18 the indoor pools at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA will once again welcome lap swimmers, water aerobics classes and families for open swim.

“We’ve been out of the building for almost 6 weeks, and we’re happy to be heading home” said CEO Kevin Engel-Cartie.

How will it work?  The Y will stagger the opening of features in the building.  “We will start off with Aquatics” said Engel-Cartie, “with land classes coming in the next week and the entire facility running again by August 1”.

For those members who put their membership “on hold” their membership can be reinstated either by completing the online form Click Here , or stopping in to the Y once the building has reopened.

Parking:  While we have managed to dry out the majority of our parking, please keep in mind that the river is still higher than our lots and we will continue to push water back.  Parking in the lots will be limited, with some areas off limits.  Heavy rains may temporarily block some parking as we pump it back down.  On busy days, the upper part of the boat ramp parking can be used.  Your help in observing no parking areas will be greatly appreciated.

Programs and Services:  We will likely have some modest changes in our hours or number of classes offered as we ramp back up.  Additionally, we will not put all of our equipment back into the Wellness Center until the river is below flood level as we plan to keep the front of the Wellness Center empty until there is no threat of flooding or groundwater.

Outdoor Pools/West High:  If you have been using the West High pool for lap swimming, that facility will no longer be available after July 15 as our pools will open Monday July 18.  If you took advantage of the wristbands to use the Sioux City outdoor pools, these bands will only be valid through July 24th.

Holds and Returning Members:  If you placed your membership on hold and want to get back to the Y, please visit our website for details on how to restart your membership.  If you cancelled your membership, you will need to rejoin.  PLEASE NOTE:  if you recently cancelled your membership, you can rejoin with NO joining fee if it has been LESS than 30 days.  If it was more than 30 days ago, you will have to pay the joining fee.
