Other Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the purpose of the Pre-Test date?
As lifeguard instructors, we must ensure that all candidates have the physical stamina and ability to continue the in-person skill training during this course, and are able to rescue people in real life emergency scenarios. Please bring your swimsuit and know how to swim freestyle and breaststroke with rhythmic breathing efficiency. If you need help or tips, please contact the Aquatics Director, Cailee, at

I have an important event during one of the class dates, am I able to miss a day?
No, candidates must be present at all class dates and times. If a pre-test is missed you must come an hour early on the first day of class to demonstrate your swimming ability.

How do I access the blended learning online content?
Once registration through the Norm Waitt Sr, YMCA is complete, allow 1-2 days for The American Red Cross to email participants a course voucher. Follow the link and directions in that email.

What happens if I need a refund?
No refunds are allowed once the American Red Cross online blended learning course content is complete.

How long is the certification valid for?

You will receive an online “voucher” in 1-2 days via email upon completing registration through the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA. This voucher will allow you access to the online course. Digital ebooks of the Lifeguard Manual are sent out to course participants via email.
