My Y Story

Itty Bitty Sports

ENCOURAGING & ENGAGING

ibs-story1

When it comes to Youth Development, the Y helps kids get off to a great start!

In addition to the nurturing and social child care atmosphere within the Y’s Child Watch (which gives you parents a break and some time to concentrate on your own wellbeing while at the Y), we give pre-schoolers a chance to learn and play with the Itty Bitty Sports program. This four-week introduction to sports (soccer, basketball and T-Ball) not only teaches sports skills, hand-eye coordination and sportsmanship, but also listening, teamwork and social skills. The open and supportive environment encourages 3 – 4 year olds to be active and express themselves.

But don’t take our word for it…

“My daughter was enrolled in the Itty Bitty Sports program. On Tuesday [just before the first day of the program], I told her that she would get to go and play soccer and she was so excited. When we arrived everyone was so helpful at the Y. We were instructed as to where to go and what we needed to do.

I just wanted to say thank you to the workers that helped with the Itty Bitty Sports. The three [Y Staff] did an awesome job with the kids and kept them engaged while following directions. I truly believe that a program is only as good as the people putting it on, and the workers did a wonderful job. They learned my daughter’s name right away and gave each kid lots of attention and positive encouragement. Any time one of the kids tried to do something or did something well they gave the child a high five and made the him/her feel so good about his/her accomplishments.

ibs-story3Once again thank you for making my daughter’s first experience with organized sports a great one!”
