AMERICAN RED CROSS

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

The Siouxland YMCA offers American Red Cross lifeguard training that includes online learning, in-person hands-on skill practice, and written tests. Certification includes Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED training. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is valid for two years from the date of completion.

Prerequisites - To be completed before the first day of class:

Minimum age: 15 years old by the first day of class.

  • Swim 150 yards with freestyle & breaststroke.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
  • Timed brick retrieval in 1 minute 40 seconds.

Online Learning: Online course is at your own pace and takes about 7 hours to complete. Course link is emailed out up to 24 hours after registration.

FOR ALL BLENDED CERTIFICATIONS:
To ensure you can pass the in-person course sessions: Pre-tests are the Wednesday before your first day of class 5 - 7 PM at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA in the fitness pool. Check-in at the front desk.
